On 2 May 2026, the 2026 Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championship concluded in Kigali, with the continent’s top teams delivering thrilling action and high-level competition, as REG Volleyball Club emerged among the standout performers, securing an impressive third-place finish.
Playing in front of a passionate home crowd, REG showcased resilience and tactical discipline throughout the tournament. Their journey to the podium was marked by key victories, including a crucial semifinal qualification after defeating Kenya Ports Authority in a tightly contested match.
However, their path to the final was halted in an all-Rwandan semifinal clash against Police Volleyball Club. Despite a strong fight, REG fell 3–1 in a match where Police capitalized on attacking efficiency and key moments to book their place in the final.
Undeterred, REG bounced back in the third-place playoff, where they faced Egypt’s Petrojet. Demonstrating composure and determination, the Rwandan side secured a 3–1 victory to clinch the bronze medal, with standout performances from key players such as Nicholas Matui leading the charge.
Throughout the competition, head coach Benon Mugisha emphasized growth and competitiveness. Reflecting on the team’s performance earlier in the tournament, he noted, “We must raise our level to win,” highlighting the ambition and mindset that ultimately propelled REG to a podium finish.
REG’s third-place finish not only underscores their rising status in African club volleyball but also reflects Rwanda’s growing presence on the continental stage. Hosting the championship in Kigali further amplified the country’s reputation as a hub for major sporting events.
REG’s podium finish on the continental stage reflects their consistent excellence domestically. As one of the top-performing teams in the Rwanda National Volleyball League, REG Volleyball Club have continued to assert themselves as a formidable force, regularly competing for top honours and setting high standards in Rwandan volleyball.
In the final, Al Ahly Volleyball Club were crowned champions after defeating Police Volleyball Club, bringing the 2026 edition of the competition to a memorable close.
