On Saturday 29th of April 2023, Rwanda Energy Group Staff together with joined residents of Kageyo Sector in Gicumbi District in monthly community works known as Umuganda.

This Umuganda also aimed at renovating the buildings of the SOS Children’s Village Byumba located in Kageyo Sector, Gicumbi District, with an aim to contribute to the improvement of the livelihoods of the children living in this village.

This village was created with an aim to reach out to vulnerable families in the surrounding community through its Family Strengthening Programme. 

Works done during this Umuganda include the installation of mosquito nets on 15 family houses where children live, painting of the buildings and reparation of door locks and windows glasses, as well as cleaning of the compound area. 

The CEO of Rwanda Energy Group, when addressing the population after the Umuganda, said that activities related Corporate Social Responsibility at REG are focused to family development and children protection. 

“At REG, we really believe that children are the future of this nation. We are very thankful for the cooperation with the SOS Children’s Village Rwanda and we commit to continue this cooperation for a long period of time” he said. 

The SOS Children’s Village Byumba was established in 1997 following the emergency programme in Ngarama (former Byumba Prefecture) to support children affected by genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.
