REG Senior Management Toured Under-Construction Energy Projects in the Eastern Province and Gicumbi District

On 15–16 January 2026, Rwanda Energy Group, Senior Management, led by CEO Armand Zingiro, conducted a two-day field visit to major energy infrastructure projects that are under construction in the Eastern Province and Gicumbi District. The tour aimed to accelerate project delivery, strengthen network stability, and expand access to reliable electricity for communities and investors.

In Bugesera District, the team assessed progress at the Bugesera Substation, now 30% complete and expected to play a critical role in stabilizing power supply. In Ngoma District, officials visited KEFA Bridge, an agribusiness company recently connected to a 160 kVA transformer to support food processing. The day concluded in Kirehe District, where construction of the Kirehe Substation is underway, set to enhance irrigation systems and boost agricultural productivity.

During inspections, CEO Zingiro stressed timely delivery, urging contractors to accelerate works while adhering to agreed timelines, quality, and safety standards. “These projects will significantly enhance network stability and ensure a reliable power supply for both communities and investors. REG remains fully committed to delivering sustainable energy infrastructure that supports national economic growth,” he said.

Day two of the field visit covered other ogoing projects in the districts of Nyagatare, Rutsiro and Gicumbi in northern province. At Gabiro Substation, the delegation reviewed extension works and a 110 kV transmission line linking Gabiro to the new Nyagatare Substation, now 70% complete. In Nyagatare District, the team inspected a smart cabin nearing completion, designed to improve monitoring and management of the distribution network.

The delegation also visited Benebikira Technical Secondary School in Gatsibo District, where a newly installed transformer was commissioned to ensure reliable power. The upgrade is expected to improve practical training in Food and Beverage, Fashion Design, Wood Technology, and Masonry. Headteacher Soeur Mariya Veneranda Mukamugema welcomed the development, calling it “a game-changer” that equips students with skills for the job market.

The tour concluded in Gicumbi District with an inspection of the new Gicumbi Substation, currently at its initial construction stage. Once completed, the facility will expand electricity access and improve service delivery in the district.
