Rwanda Energy Group (REG) has started the upgrade of our power vending system to meet the latest international standards, improve customer experience and enhance system security.

Armand Zingiro; the CEO of REG, said that the upgrade of the system has already kicked off but it will be done in phases.

“This upgrade concerns all REG customers using pre-paid meters, known as cash powers. The upgrade of the system shall be done by entering the three (3) tokens which will be provided once, when a customer purchases electricity. A customer who will purchase electricity, will receive 3 tokens. These 3 tokens must be carefully entered in the meter in a chronological order as reflected on the issued receipt/message of tokens (starting by token 1 and confirm, then token 2 and confirm, then lastly token 3 and confirm).” Disclosed Zingiro during the Press conference held on 11^th March, 2024 at REG Headquarters.

For upgrading the system in cashpowers, customers must note the following:

• Every token must be entered separately in the normal way used when entering electricity token and the confirmation message of loaded electricity units shall be displayed in the meter once the three tokens are successfully entered.
• Tokens purchased before, must be entered into the cashpower before starting the system ’s upgrade otherwise after the upgrade the electricity purchased will not be entered.
• This upgrade is being done in phases. In case you have not yet received the 3 tokens after purchase of electricity, keep patient until the time you will receive the 3 tokens. You will continue to buy electricity as usual.
