MTN-Foundation donates 50M to support government initiatives

Kigali, 7th December, 2016- Under the auspices of supporting government initiatives, MTN Rwanda Foundation handed over 50Million Rwandan Francs to the Ministries of Infrastructure and Local Government. The event was held at the Ministry of Infrastructure Headquarters in Kacyiru.

These initiatives are part of the MTN Rwanda Foundation strategy that focuses on investing transformation of people lives with objective of creating social and economic development of the country from the grass root of the high development structures.

The MTN Foundation donated 25Million Rwandan francs to the Ministry of Infrastructure to support rural electrification using off grid solutions. The donation will be used to buy solar systems that will connect some villages in Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts in the Southern province. “Thanks to MTN for great partnership and support in development of our country through this important initiative that will help the government reach 70% of access to electricity “Minister James Musoni revealed.

The MTN Foundation also donated 25Million to the Ministry of Local government meant to buy Laptops that will be given to sector executive secretaries in the country with aim of improving service delivery and efficiency in their daily tasks. The support also is in line with promoting ICT in villages for enhanced social and economic development.

According to the Chairperson MTN Foundation Rwanda, Mrs.Mukarubega Zulfat,”We are very happy partnering with the government in terms of improving economic development and very proud working under good leadership, we are very keen to support the government’s initiatives for better transformation our communities”.

 “We are delighted to receive this generous contribution from MTN. It will go a long way in improving ICT education in our schools. I appeal to other corporate organizations to emulate MTN and support the community,” Minister James said
