More than 17,000 households without electricity in Rubavu District are being connected

More than 17,000 households located in different sectors, in Rubavu District are receiving electricity through the Rwanda Universal Electricity Access Project (RUEAP).

So far, the supply of electricity to new homes in Rubavu has already provided electricity to more than 6200 new homes according to Muhire Christian; the Manager of REG branch in Rubavu District.

Muhire says: "with the help of the RUEAP project, we are now providing electricity to new households that did not have electricity in Rubavu District, these days we are providing electricity to households in the Kanama sector and we will reach other sectors as well, what is exciting is that in Kanama Sector there was a cell which was totally not connected and their households are being supplied for the first time, the people are happy."

REG Manager in Rubavu, says that that Cell is called Yungwe located in Kanama Sector and was the lone Cell in Rubavu without electricity.

Muhire says that this project to connect new households will work in all Sectors of Rubavu District during this 2024/2025 fiscal year except in Gisenyi Sector.

Cuurently 81,1 % of households in Rwanda have electricity, including those with electricity connected to off-grid solutions mostly solar panels.
