REG recognized among Private Companies that promote Gender equality and accountability

The Gender Monitoring Office (GMO) and the Private Sector Federation (PSF)  in collaboration with The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Women, today on 30th March, 2021 hold the recognition event for the second cohort of private sector companies for their efforts and commitment in promoting gender equality and accountability in their business.
This is part of the programme " Promoting gender accountability in the private sector in Rwanda", initiated in 2017 with the aim of ensuring respect of gender equality principles in the private sector, thus allowing men and women equally contribute the company growth through increased productivity and profitability.
Rwanda Energy Group (REG) is among the Companies that were recognized in a ceremony that took place at Serena Hotel, Kigali.
Ron Weiss, the CEO of REG thanked GMO and other partners for organizing this event, and reiterate the REG’s will to increase the number of women working in energy sector.
REG CEO also called all stakeholders to double effort to facilitate women engineers access the labour market, more specifically in the energy sector. He also mentioned that REG is about to build a new hydropower plant where staff will only be women. 
“Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant which is going to be built, will only be operated by women” he said, adding that women are capable like men, to not only compete for jobs in the energy sector but also strive for high positions in the energy sector or other sectors.” Disclosed CEO Ron after receiving the certificate.
The companies that joined the programme, completed the gender analysis and developed the action plan to address the identified gaps were recognized and were provided with recognition certificates for their efforts as they wait to complete implementation of planned initiatives for being gender certified.
Apart from REG that was recognized in this event, other companies that were recognized are Bank of Kigali (BK), Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD), Mata Tea Company, MTN Rwanda,Nyabihu Potato Company Ltd, Rwanda Interlink Transport Company (RITCO), Wolfram Mining and Processing Company.
