REG and WASAC commemorated former ELECTROGAZ Staff victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

On 09th April, 2019 the staff of Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Water Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) together with the families of former ELECTROGAZ Staff victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, commemorated former ELECTROGAZ Staff victims of the Genocide against Tutsis, an activity that took place at Nyanza Memorial, in Kicukiro District, City of Kigali.

The commemoration started with laying a wreath at memorial built at REG Headquarters, where the staff of REG and WASAC and families of the victims took time to remember their loved ones.

After laying a wreath, all the participants headed at IPRC Kicukiro to attend a walk to remember from IPRC Kicukiro to Nyanza Memorial in memory of Tutsi killed after being left out by former MINUAR military (UN military forces).

After that walk to remember, the ceremony went on at Nyanza Memorial where the participants were presented how the Genocide was prepared and executed.

In his remarks, Ron Weiss, the Chief Executive Officer of REG said that what happened in Rwanda is very sad and he can't find words to express it but he hopes Genocide will never happen again in the future. He comforted the families of the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. 

"The trauma resulting from the Genocide is always present in the everyday lives of the survivors. However, there was a big change and reconciliation to see in Rwanda as united people building on the theme: “remember, unite and renew” as the major tool of unity.” Disclosed CEO REG.

Eng. Aimé Muzola, the CEO of WASAC, reiterated the dreadful moments the Tutsi passed through during the Genocide. He further reminded participants that Rwandans will keep commemorating  the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, generation by generation.

He said that REG and WASAC are looking forward to establishing a framework of gathering all families of the victims in an association that shall plan and implement some socio-economic activities for their own development.
