REG and WASAC commemorated former ELECTROGAZ Staff victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi

On 08th April, 2021 the Senior Managers of Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Water Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) commemorated former ELECTROGAZ Staff victims of the Genocide against Tutsis, an activity that took place at the Memorial located at REG Headquarters, in Nyarugenge District, City of Kigali.

The commemoration started with laying a wreath at this memorial built at REG Headquarters, where the Senior Management of REG and WASAC took time to remember 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

Eng. Alfred DUSENGE Byigero, the CEO of WASAC in his remarks during this commemoration reiterated the dreadful moments the Tutsi passed through during the Genocide. He further reminded participants that Rwandans will keep commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, generation by generation, and every year WASAC will avail a fund for the survivors of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

“This year we provided clean water to one village of Genocide survivors in Ruhango District, we planned to keep assisting families of 1994 Genocide against Tutsi every year to honor them.” Disclosed Eng. Byigero.

In her concluding remarks, Dr. Didacienne MUKANYILIGIRA the Chairpersonof the Board of Directors at REG said that what happened in Rwanda is very sad and she can't find words to express it but she hopes Genocide will never happen again in the future. She comforted the families of the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and thanked REG Management for upholding the culture of unity at workplace.

“I request everyone to keep fighting any genocide ideology and also keep upholding the values of unity and reconciliation. We are ready to provide our contribution to support Genocide Survivors, as the wounds resulting from the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi are always present in their daily lives.

In the framework of the 27th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi, REG provided free connection to the electrical grid the IDP model village built for Genocide survivors in Muhanga District, while WASAC provided free household connections to water network 45 houses of the survivors in Ruhango District. Both companies also donated 4 million Rwandan Francs to support activities of IBUKA during the 100 days of commemoration.
